Tell us a bit about your journey to be a therapist...
Growing up, I didn't have access to many safe spaces around me to express my emotions freely. This motivated me to learn more about emotions and how they have impacted me. I started working in more supportive and learning - friendly mental health spaces. Being in these spaces gave me the confidence to take more initiative to work towards deconstructing the negative stigma around seeking help and working towards creating safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone.
What can your clients expect after their first session?
I hope for them to feel comforted, heard, and supported about their journey, knowing that there is always a space for them to express themselves freely. I believe that clients know their situation and circumstances better than anyone else and I want them to know that I will continue to empower them through their journey of explorations and insight. I also want them to know that therapy is a collaborative process where the goals and the pacing of the sessions can be worked on together, keeping in mind the needs of the clients. Lastly, I would like them to know that someone is on their team, advocating for their mental health and well - being.
What do you look forward to about your work as a therapist?
In my work as a therapist, I am always in awe of seeing clients having small pockets of hope even when they are in the most difficult spaces. My work also provides me with the privilege to a client's inner world and their dynamic journey towards building compassion for themselves and exploring their identity. It's powerful to see them hold space for themselves through very difficult moments of hopelessness, loss and vulnerability.
Which therapy approach do you use in your work?
I am trauma - informed, queer affirmative, and neurodiversity inclusive in my practice. The approach that I incorporate is a body - based approach, using Integral Somatic Psychology with a blend of Internal Family Systems, Gestalt therapy and Compassion - focused therapy.
How do you build a therapeutic relationship with your clients?
Having been on the other side of the therapeutic process as a client, I can imagine how scary and vulnerable therapy can feel. I believe in building an equal relationship with my clients with safety, empathy and collaboration being at the forefront.
What do you do when not working?
I like watching movies/TV shows while also analyzing them. I have always had a preference for warm beverages be it tea or coffee. I also love trying different foods from different cultures. Lately, I have started enjoying learning more about Physics and the different elements that make up our universe.
